Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the PetTheDog app for mobile devices, created by Nuril Baradusov as a free service. PetTheDog is a shared game: the dogs you catch appear on a map that other players see.

Your account

The first time you accept the community rules, the app creates an anonymous account for you. There is no email, phone number or password. The account is identified by a random ID kept in your device's keychain, so it survives reinstalling the app. Your username is public; pick one that doesn't identify you if you prefer.

What other players see

• your username and profile picture;
• each dog you catch, cut out of the photo, with the name it was given;
• roughly where it was met: a point snapped to a grid about 500 m across, plus the district and city — never the exact spot;
• the date it was met — the server keeps only the hour;
• how many dogs you have met, and how many you met first.

What stays on your device

The full photograph never leaves your phone. Only the cut-out dog is uploaded, so faces, number plates and doors in the background are not shared. The exact location of each catch and the street name are kept on your device only. To show a place name, the coordinates are sent to Apple's geocoding service; see Apple's privacy policy for how Apple handles that request.

What we store

The server stores your account ID, username, profile picture, the cut-out pictures of your dogs and what is listed above, a digital fingerprint of each picture used to suggest when two catches might be the same dog, the players you have blocked, and the reports you send. It runs on Supabase, in the European Union (Frankfurt). We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps.

Camera and Photos

The camera is used to photograph the dogs you catch; each photo is analysed on your device to find the dog and cut it out. You can choose a profile picture from your photo library or take one; it is shared as your profile picture. The app asks to add to your photo library only when you save a card you are sharing.

Deleting your data

Delete a catch in the app and it is deleted from the server too. Settings › Delete account deletes your account, your pictures and everything you shared, for good, from the server and from your device. Dogs you met first that other players also met stay on the map under their names, without yours.

Children

PetTheDog is meant for people aged 13 and over.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page.
